A GOP Slate For The CA Legislature

When GFC launched in 2011, Republicans held enough seats in the California Legislature that occasionally they could exercise some leverage by joining with pragmatic Democrats to bridge some gaps. But Republicans have lost nearly 40 percent of their seats since then, rendering both Republicans and pragmatic Democrats largely irrelevant in the Legislature. We’d like to change that by helping to elect more Republicans, especially those of a pragmatic nature. Never before have we issued a slate on party lines and by no means will it be a panacea, but more GOP members could be particularly helpful to a governor who is seriously interested in fiscal reforms. As you know, the election of such a governor is one of our principal objectives.

The first step is to stop losing seats. Linked here is a slate of seven GOP candidates who we believe have a good chance of prevailing and for whom donations at this moment could help. With a single click you can support any or all in any amount up to the maximum permitted by law. Other GOP candidates may have a shot but we don’t feel confident making recommendations about races we haven’t studied in some depth. If you’d like a list of all GOP candidates, just let us know.

PS: Among the GOP members we miss most is John Moorlach, who kept a sharp eye on fiscal matters in the State Senate. John writes a newsletter you can read here
