Early GFC supporters will recall that I expected pension reform to happen by now. I was way off.
And as my colleague Joe Nation recently reported, in the absence of reform we ain’t seen nothin’ yet. That’s why pension reform must happen, but it won’t until other reforms happen first that demonstrate to legislators they can reform without disastrous political consequences. That’s one reason we are ramping up with easier reforms. While we have enough muscle to block many bills (indeed, we feel comfortable saying that had GFC been around in 1999 we could’ve blocked SB 400), enacting bills is harder. In preparation, we are modeling pension reform legislation.
