Dear Legislators,
California, Mississippi and three other states grant permanent employment (ie, tenure) to public school teachers after just 18 months of teaching experience. 45 states wait longer or never do.
We’ve never met a lawmaker who seeks to send their kids to dentists or doctors guaranteed jobs for life regardless of performance, but that practice is alive and well in public schools that provide services just as critical to the wellbeing of children.
California should amend its permanent employment law. We support AB 1284 (B. Rubio). We think of it as consumer protection for schoolchildren.
