District Responses to COVID-19 School Closures

Yesterday, EdSource hosted a webinar about a national database of “District Responses to COVID-19 School Closures” compiled by the Center For Re-Thinking Public Education at the University of Washington.

A stand-out is Miami-Dade, a high-poverty district in Florida:

San Diego and Sacramento are favorably cited for attention to special education and teacher training but no other California district gets special mention.

California’s legislators write the Education Code that governs K-12, which is the General Fund’s largest expenditure. For the foreseeable future, distance learning will be the norm. California should be the best. That will happen only with strict attention, smart rules, and high standards set by state legislators.

Govern For California supports lawmakers who legislate in the general interest.
